The queen asks Maleficent if she is offended. It looks simple but the queen must be absolutely terrified.
She must have spent the past couple of decades trying to get pregnant. It’s really important for a monarchy to have an heir, especially this kingdom as they have Maleficent sitting right there abusing the kingdom. She probably spent years on her knees praying for a child.
She looks tired, did she have complications with the birth, in any case it must have been a tough pregnancy, and she would have been restricted by the midwife and doctor to preserve the baby, at cost to herself.
She probably didn’t have any say in the guest list either.
Her whole life comes crashing down around her ears as Maleficent curses her baby, the only one she knows she’s ever going to have. She gave her life to having a baby and now that baby was being taken away from her.
I can see her stumbling over to her throne, hugging Aurora close to her and weeping like a broken-hearted child. Mourning her beautiful living baby in her arms, because of that terrible curse.
She’d give anything to keep her baby safe and she did. What an incredible sacrifice, she sent her daughter, her only child into hiding, with the fairies, hoping they were as good at being parents as she wanted to be, but knowing that there were some issues with them since they were fairies and not humans.
Would she, herself, live long enough for her daughter to return? The queen looks about 35-40, she could be as old as 56 when her baby comes home.
Merryweather modified the death curse to a sleep, but would that help the queen? Only a little.
