Disney’s California Adventure - Name Changes
Disney California Adventure will rename a number of its themed lands in Summer 2012, when work on a $1.1 billion series of upgrades will be completed.
The Disney Parks Blog has confirmed the names of the lands, which are in line with previous rumors. One of new lands will be entirely new, with the Cars Land expansion due to debut in the summer. Several of the others are re-themed versions of established areas of the park.
The full line-up of lands at Disney California Adventure will be:
- “a bug’s land” - existing area, housing the “It’s Tough To Be a Bug” show and a number of smaller attractions.
- Buena Vista Street - will replace the Sunshine Plaza entrance area, and be themed around 1920s-era Los Angeles as Walt Disney would have found it when he moved to the city.
- Cars Land - an all-new land featuring 3 new rides, including the $200 million Radiator Springs Racers.
- Condor Flats - existing airfield-themed land, that hosts the headliner Soarin’ Over California ride.
- Grizzly Peak - home to the Grizzly River Run water ride.
- Hollywood Land - an updated version of the former Hollywood Pictures Backlot area, designed to celebrate the “golden age” of Hollywood.
- Pacific Wharf - existing area, which is based on Monterey’s Cannery Row.
- Paradise Pier - themed after a seaside amusement park, this area will retain its name but has undergone significant changes in order to resemble a Victorian-style boardwalk.
